This monograph traces the artist’s career through more than 100 large-format reproductions. Through abstraction and matter, through collage and drawing, to the ‘giornata’ he has created in recent years: idiosyncratic paintings with a complex and rich structure, beyond abstraction and figuration. Although Vilain is active and appreciated not only as a painter but also as a draughtsman, graphic artist and sculptor, this book focuses mainly on the painterly oeuvre.
